Portage, Michigan
Engineering
Design Program: Portage Public Schools Transportation Building encompasses maintenance vehicles, grounds equipment and storage, bus garage, and 4,800 sq. ft. of office space.
The bus garage and maintenance areas were heated with infra-red heating while conditioning ventilation through ducted gas-fired make-up air units. The office areas were conditioned with gas-fired high efficiency furnaces and condensing units. Plumbing requirements included oil/grit separators, trench drains and emergency showers.
The Building includes areas for welding, painting, compressed gases, tire storage and engine exhaust. Each area required specific exhaust systems as well as general exhaust throughout. Due to bus and vehicle storage and repair, the building required CO and NO2 monitoring systems.
