Design Program: Byce & Associates, Inc., provided design services for the mechanical, electrical and security systems for a 29,500 square foot addition. The addition included a new master control center, booking area, detox cells, holding cells, security garage, multipurpose room and a full service kitchen. The original building was updated to include new Sheriff's offices and a new 911 Central Dispatch Center.
The 22,000 square foot existing building houses 52 beds for inmates. The cell blocks were set up with a middle corridor & catwalk with bars separating cells from the outer wall.
Design Challenges: Phasing of construction was a unique challenge as the building was required to remain occupied during construction. The existing master control center did not provide acceptable viewing of inmate cells; the new design required improved viewing of new inmate cells.
