Program:  Byce & Associates, Inc. provided mechanical commissioning services for Kalsec's new Quality Control Laboratory Building.  The commissioning of this project was substantial in its need for an evaluation of chilled water, heating hot water energy recovery unit, exhaust, supply fan and three separate air handling units. Lab pressurization, pumps, air compressor, lab gas, zero air generation and hydrogen alarming were also elements emphasized in the functional commissioning of the laboratory building.

Commissioning Benefits: Specific benefits of the commissioning process for this project include:  revision of laboratory airflows to develop proper pressure relationships throughout the building,  improved operation of the central exhaust air system; increased accessibility for service of exhaust air valves, increased energy efficiency, improved air handler control and improved occupant comfort through revisions to reheat capacities and space airflows.  Complete system documentation and owner's integration with the commissioning team has increased the understanding of mechanical systems as well as improved the owner's understanding of the maintenance requirements.

Scope of Commissioning Services:   All HVAC systems were commissioned including chilled water system, heating water system, glycol based energy recovery coil loop system, steam humidification  system, supply air systems, exhaust air systems, HVAC building automation system.
