Story

Design Program:  The Veterans Memorial Park, located on the banks of the Kalamazoo River, and  surrounded by underdeveloped land, was designed to honor local Veterans from every branch of the armed services. This Memorial was a joint effort between Kalamazoo Rotary and the City of Kalamazoo. Byce & Associates, Inc. designed the decorative and site lighting for this beautiful, and emotional   monument to those who served our country.

Design Challenges:  One of the biggest challenges of this project was to make sure that the natural habitat around the Veterans Memorial Park area was not disturbed. The Memorial is also located on a very busy business loop that runs through the downtown Kalamazoo area, so traffic interruption was also a major concern. Because of the unpredictable weather in this area, bringing the utilities into an underdeveloped area was a challenge.
