Battle Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant (New Headquarters)

Process-Piping-Design/Build

Story

The Battle Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant Headwork's included the installation of underground concrete pipe up to 60" in diameter and weighing over 1,000 pounds per foot. Three Self Cleaning Screens and three Screenings Presses were also installed. Four Centrifugal pumps in the building are each rated at 20.1 million gallons per day. This is enough volume to fill the average backyard pool in about one minute. The Grit Removal structure consists of two tanks to remove abrasive materials from the process flow and is each rated to treat 30 million gallons per day. Two blowers for the Grit Structure each produce 500 cubic feet of compressed air per minute. The four-replacement clarifier mechanisms consisted of two - 80' clarifiers each rated at 6 million gallons per day and two - 100' clarifiers each rated at 9.4 million gallons per day. Two new Recycle Pumps were installed along with the slip lining of over 1,200 lineal feet of existing underground concrete piping with HDPE piping. When the Headwork's project was completed, the work was accepted by the city after only two partial days of operation due to the exceptional performance of the equipment and controls.
