Farmers Insurance Campus Expansion

Caledonia, Michigan

Story

When the design team for Farmers Insurance began to work on the design for their facility in Caledonia, Michigan, what came about was actually two buildings totaling 197,190 square feet protected from the elements by a Firestone Fully Adhered T.P.O. Roof System. White in color, for reflectivity, the .045 mil. reinforced membrane is extremely durable. To receive a 20 year warranty, this system was installed per specifications by experienced technicians from Langerak Roof Systems so that the Farmers Group would be assured of many years of trouble free service with this quality system. Two layers of 2” Firestone Polyisocyanurate Insulation was used to achieve the “R” values desired by the architects. Saddles were installed, including drain sets at each drain to achieve positive drainage. These unusually large saddles required site fabrication, and for environmental sensitivity, all leftover product was recycled by the original fabricator. Connecting these buildings is an at grade tunnel roof which is covered with an 80 mil. T.P.O. Roof System to accommodate a beautiful Live Roof pre-vegetated invisible-modular garden system. The benefits this system brings are immediate aesthetic beauty, urban heat island mitigation, reduction of storm water runoff, energy conservation, and the extension of roof longivity. This project was installed with an accelerated schedule to accommodate the contractors trying to fulfill their responsibilities on the inside of the building during a moisture laden spring. We appreciate the privilege of being part of the successful team that put this efficient functional and beautiful building together.
