Though adequate for the athletic programs of the 1960’s, the former Fieldhouse for Aquinas College was outdated and underwent extensive programming, design, and fundraising before construction began in 2009. The new Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center features upgraded competition areas in the arena with telescopic bleacher seating and mezzanine, Aquinas’ sports hall of fame, fitness center facilities, dance room, much-needed classroom space for Aquinas College’s Athletic Training Program, and a Saints room for events with limited conference space. The LEED renovation nearly doubled the usable square footage, all within the building’s existing footprint.
