Ridge Point Community Church - Auditorium Build Out

Holland, Michigan

Story

Ridge Pointe Community Church was started in 1993 and is located just off I-196 in Holland, Michigan. The first phase of construction was completed in 1997. The current phase of construction was the build out of 70,000 square feet and included the sanctuary, a kitchen, and additional classrooms and restrooms. The scope of Sobie Company’s work included metal stud walls and drywall in all these areas and ceiling clouds in the sanctuary. In the sanctuary, many of the walls and bulkheads included angles and curves. This work required great care in the planning and layout for the installation of the gypsum board and control joints. Because the seating and aisles are so close to the walls it was very important to have eye-pleasing lines for walls and control joints. Most of the work in the sanctuary was difficult since it was done from either scaffolding or lifts; however, the end result was a beautiful facility. The large ceiling clouds are framed in a steel grid and hang on cables. The cables were anchored into the ceiling using a 65 foot boom lift. Again, precision planning and layout was required so the framework would hang on a flat plane in order to have the thin metal panels fit into the steel frame. The craftsmanship can really be appreciated when viewed from the balcony of the sanctuary.
