steel-erection
Grand Rapids, Michigan
Pioneer Construction erected the steel for this 12-story children’s hospital which will house 206 private beds. Challenges of erection of the 1,400 hundred tons of steel on twelve levels was complicated by the ‘wagon wheel†framing on the east and west ends required due to the circular geometry of the building. The project was located on an extremely limited urban site and required careful scheduling of all deliveries because of a complete lack of staging areas. Close erection tolerances required to tie into the concrete shear walls and needed to meet the requirements of the curtain wall were further complicated by the challenges of winter construction.
