Battle Creek Health Systems - Urgent Care

Battle Creek, Michigan

Story

Design: Tower Pinkster Contract: Construction Manager Budge:t $632,000 Supervision Project Director:Todd McDonald; Project Manager: Jason Moore; Project Coordinator: Amanda Zima Nationwide, more and more patients are visiting emergency departments for cuts, bruises, and other non-critical conditions that can be safely handled by an urgent care center. With that in mind, the expectation for Battle Creek Health System building the Beckley Road Urgent Care was to offer a new problem-specific service. This would not only serve its patients more efficiently, but also to lessen the overcrowding for true emergencies at the hospital’s main campus, which currently sees nearly 50,000 patients annually. The new, one-story urgent care center opened in December 2007 and occupies 4,000 square feet of space. The center has six examination rooms, X-ray capabilities, and a laboratory for testing. The new facility is connected to the hospital’s electronic medical record capabilities so patients as well as physicians can access their health histories. The lobby/waiting room is decorated in earth tones with small group seating areas that promote family comfort. There is a separate glassed-in ‘playroom’ for children, a flat screen television, and a coffee/refreshment station. The other half of the building houses imaging services including the hospital’s ‘open’ MRI and CT units, as well as radiology physician offices.
