Norton Shores, Michigan

Story

Design: Zimmerman Architecture Studios Contract: Design/Build Budget: $7,500,000 Supervision Jason Nyhuis, Mike Obbink, and Glen Drenten Wacker Construction Equipment AG is a division of the Germany-based Wacker Neuson Group, a global manufacturer of light equipment and compact construction machines. Wacker contracted Lamar Construction Company to build a new facility in Norton Shores, the company’s first United States manufacturing location, to house the high-volume production of mobile hydronic heating equipment, dehumidifiers, and light towers. This 170,000 square-foot pre-engineered steel building features a single-slope roof with a 34-foot high eave and a steel stud frame parapet of equal height that runs the entire length of the facility’s 450-foot south elevation. Custom-colored aluminum framed window bands and 40 inches of masonry block span all but the structure’s north side, which is an expandable end wall for a future expansion. The facility’s architectural centerpiece is its 22,000 square-foot two-story office, accented by two rows of 6-foot window bands and 1000 square-feet of glass curtain wall. This facility also features 8 exterior truck docks, 3 enclosed truck docks, custom 9-foot tall service doors, and two crane bays (5 ton and 10 ton).
