Story
STAR WARS: RISE OF THE RESISTANCE ATTRACTION
DISNEY’S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is an expectation-shattering attraction, featuring full-scale sets, ride vehicles and special effects that bring the Star Wars® universe to life via an immersive experience. Scenario embracedbeing a part of the team that took on building a project like this, to deliver aproject of high quality and expectations Scenario’s dedicated staff ofdirectors, project managers, technical designers, production and field construction, and specialty themed creative artists had the experience neededto build the robust and physical scenic environments.
This attraction (a combination of a trackless dark ride, walk-through, motion simulator, and drop ride system) immerses guests into conflict between the Resistance and theFirst Order. It is one of the longest and most complex and advanced attractionsever designed by Walt Disney Imagineering. The experience includes visually stunning scenes, as beloved (and feared) Star Wars® characters engage with the guests at full volume and scale.
Scenario was honored to be one of the primary show set vendors forStar Wars: Rise of The Resistance at both The Walt Disney World® Resort and Disneyland® Resort. The challenges of creating an attraction of this scale was embraced by our team and our scope included the following:
CONTRACTED SCOPE OF WORK
· Concurrent Design at both Disneyland® Resort (Anaheim, CA) and WaltDisney World® Resort (Lake Buena Vista,FL).
· 3D Show Set Design, Coordination, and Clash Detection
· Planning for implementation of Facility Model/As-Built Drawingsusing BIM
SIZE OF THE PROJECT
· Building Size: Over 150,000 SF
· Provided Show Set Theming for 15 out the 18 Ride Scenes
· 186 Total Team Members
· Over 180,000 estimated total working hours
CONSTRUCTION DURATION
· February 2018 – August 2019
- SHOW SCENIC DESIGN, PRODUCTION, AND CONSTRUCTION INSTALLATION
· Full-scale dimensional scenic elements for attraction scenes.
· Guests are immersed by the attraction’s sheer size, including full-size AT-AT walkers,which are highly detailed. Scenario provided construction of these large setpieces, and in the case of the AT-AT walkers, their size was so large that theyhad to be built in concert with the construction of the facility/building.
· All components of the sets are extremely detailed and meticulously designed toembody the places seen in the Star Wars® films. Media is used as an extension of the physical sets, so the set pieces had to blend/integrate seamlessly intothe unfolding story.
· Bringingthe world of Star Wars® to life as this attraction was not the only challenge. Scenario also hadt o make all show/scenic elements robust enough to stand up to constant guest impact and interaction.
· Closeintegration of MEP, audio/video, and all other facility elements as specifiedand designed.
· Ensuring360-degree immersion in design, implementation, and finishes of all scenicelements.
· Integrationof scenic elements with integrated systems such as SFX/Lighting/Animation.
· Thisattraction is located at both the Disneyland® Resort in Anaheim, California andat The Walt Disney World® Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
