Disney NBA Experience

Story

Demo of existing 5 story +- 80,000-sq.-ft., structural steelretail building and construction of a new 53,000-sq.-ft. NBAExperience facility.

The demolition of an existing iconic building in DisneySprings (Disney Quest) involved performing work in an area that millionsof people visit annually.  Not only was the work completed ahead ofschedule, but the project was completed without incident, and without a singlecomplaint of detracting from the Disney Springs tourist experience. Thekey metrics for success were that we complete the work safely, and did notdetract from the experience of the tourists that continued to visit DisneySprings during the reverse construction phase of the project.

Thenew construction of the 2-story steel structure is comprised of an NBA ticketedexperience, with 13 interactive attractions, and an associated NBA retailstore, as well as a distinguished entrance for a food and beverageparticipant and back-of-house (BOH) service areas. DPR self-performed concretefor this project.

In the spirit of Ever Forward, I wanted to communicate somethingthat a project team in Orlando has recently accomplished.  First a littlebackground into the project.  We have been hired by Disney to reverseconstruct (demo) an existing iconic building in Disney Springs (DisneyQuest).  The building is approximately 5 stories high, and is locatedright next to Cirque du Soleil, House of Blues, and Splitsville. Following thereverse construction, we will be building a really cool NBA Experience facilityon the same spot.  The reverse construction was intense and involvedperforming work in an area that millions of people visit annually.  Thekey metrics for success were that we complete the work Safely and did notdetract from the experience of the tourists that continued to visit DisneySprings during the reverse construction phase of the project.

This is the part of the email where we really get to showcase ourproject team and our trade partner.  Not only was the work completed aheadof schedule, but the project was completed without incident, and without asingle complaint of detracting from the Disney Springs touristexperience.  George this is a tremendous accomplishment!  My familygoes to Disney Springs.  Many of the families of those that live and workaround Disney Springs go there as well.  Disney Springs also serves as aplace where Make A Wish folks attend, where disadvantaged families are treatedto a great day, and where millions of people spend their hard-earned money attendingthe attractions.  We did not negatively impact any of these folks, and wedid so while performing the work with zero incidents!

So why did we perform so well?  The team was absolutelyengaged and planned the work with precision and intense focus.  After theplanning, the team flawlessly executed the work performed by our trade partnerIndependence Excavation. The most admirable trait amongst the entire team wasthe way they interacted with Independence Excavation.  The team focused ontrue collaboration, and really exemplified all four of our core values throughthe entire process.  Independence Excavation was absolutely a tremendouspartner!  They came to the table with great plans and held everyoneaccountable to a tremendous Safety culture that they have instilled with theiremployees.

This is truly a great example of Building Great Things (bothbuildings and people), and I am truly happy and humbled to be able to work withsuch great teammates!

Kudos to the following folks for their efforts and dedication toour continued success: Brandy Smith, Jake Guengerich, David Rivera, OmarAmezquita, Shawn Pratt, Taylor Pruden, and the entire Independence Excavationteam!
