Aspart of their commitment to meet a greater range of healthcare needs forresidents living in fast-growing Lake County, Florida, AdventHealth Watermanselected Robins & Morton as construction manager for its $70 millionexpansion and renovation project. The first phase of the project was an expansion completed in early 2019, and it was designedand constructed with structural support for an additional expansion up to six floors. It addedmore than 111,000 square feet of patient care space, including:

·       30,000-square-footexpansion of the Emergency Department (ED)

·       30,000-square-footWomen and Children’s Unit

·       25,500-square-footinpatient rehabilitation unit

·       25,500square feet of shell space for future expansion

The secondphase of the project, completed in December 2019, further expanded the ED with18,000 square feet of major renovation, doubling capacity for the overburdenedunit.

Theproject also included the addition of a subgrade tunnel, connecting structure,and added MEP capacity and upgrades to the existing Central Energy Plant tosupport the future expansion of the ED tower.

The completedproject supports the owner’s strategic goal to increase integration within thehospital system, improving connectivity between buildings both physically and electronically.A new corridor joins the main hospital entrance and ED entrance, which easeswayfinding for patients. The design also promotes clinical collaboration bystaging physician work areas in a centralized location, thus improving staffexperience and quality of care.

Theproject enhances patient flow by maintaining separate public and staff corridors,allowing staff to triage patients more effectively. Both the ED and bed towerare designed to maximize access to lake views and daylight to amplify patient well-being.
