Story

The SR-22 Freeway Design Build Project included construction to widen an existing freeway to accommodate a 12-mile HOV lane addition in each direction and auxiliary lanes for multiple ramps and interchanges, 22 widened bridges, 9 replacement bridges and 3 new bridges.

Koury was subcontracted by Granite-Myer-Rados to perform geotechnical monitoring, construction inspection and materials testing. Throughout the three years on this project, Koury worked and coordinated with Granite-Myers-Rados, Caltrans and Orange County Transportation Authority. Our services included:  geotechnical monitoring, construction inspection and material testing, observation and testing of sub-grade, grading, back-fill and compaction, perform quality control and assurance during concrete batch plant and placement, masonry placement, rebar placement, welding and electrical. Our team conducted tests on soils materials using sand cone and nuclear gauge methods. Other tests performed were rebar bend/tensile, concrete and masonry compression tests, non-destructive ultrasonic and magnetic particle testing.
