Grand Rapids Fire Station No. 1

Grand Rapids, Michigan

Architectural

Story

The renovation of a circa 1910 two-story fire station and fire department administrative offices.  The second story of 10,000 square feet was completely remodeled into office space and related administrative functions.

The first floor was redesigned to accommodate living quarters for the Fire Company and a new public entrance and lobby.  The building was made barrier free by the installation of an elevator and new toilet rooms, and more energy efficient by installing new windows and/or glazing and wall and roof insulation.  New mechanical, electrical, and fire sprinkler systems were integrated into the existing building in a manner that retained the character of the original spaces.

The project scope included spacial planning and office layout, material and finish selection, equipment selection, construction documents and contruction observation.
