Acoustical-Design
This LEED Silver project was challenging enough due to the integration of a Middle School and Elementary School in the same facility. However, the challenge was particularly difficult because the school building was historic. Much of the original architecture needed to be retained and unmodified. This meant that acoustical treatments needed to be carefully integrated into the architectural design. Acoustics By Design was retained to provide detailed room acoustics for the Main Lobby/Meeting Area, Middle School Cafeteria/Auditoria, Middle School Music, Middle School Gymnasium, Elementary Cafetorium, Elementary Music, and Elementary Gymnasium. Project highlights: • complete renovation of an original 1928 school building • 164,000-square-foot renovation to k-8 building, 64,000- square-foot new addition • interior details were either maintained or their “feel” recreated with modern technologies and applications • Grand Rapids, MI
