The Soccer Spot - Kentwood

Grand Rapids, Michigan

Civil-Engineering

Story

The 85,000 square foot Soccer Spot building is situated on a 9 acre site in Kentwood, Michigan. The Kentwood Soccer Spot is located upstream of Whiskey Creek, in a rapidly developing area of the City. With three regulation size fields comprised of recycled rubberized turf, the Soccer Spot provides an indoor venue for youth and adult soccer leagues and instruction, along with tournaments, trade shows, field trips, and parties. The Soccer Spot also serves as the practice facility for the Grand Rapids Rampage Arena Football Team. Driesenga & Associates, Inc. designed the site, associated parking, and outdoor playfields related to the new arena, while incorporating the MDEQ Best Management Practices to protect existing wetland areas and water quality in Whiskey Creek from increased storm water runoff. All site design, including storm water management design and detention pond sizing was completed in accordance with City of Kentwood, MI. requirements. An MDEQ permit was obtained for wetland mitigation. Driesenga & Associates provided site design engineering, geotechnical investigations, topographic surveying, and construction staking services on the project.
