The Ravines

Kentwood, Michigan

Story

The Ravines PUD in the City of Kentwood is a residential development covering approximately 320 acres and will result in approximately 1,200 living units. The major arterial road, Pfeiffer Woods Drive, was designed and constructed to provide access to each of the proposed residential phases. All utilities were laid out for the development in the preliminary design phase of the project in order to determine the best routing method. Sanitary sewer capacity became a question for the various phases of the project as the City of Kentwood is a growing community. Driesenga's role on the project included preliminary design, surveying, land divisions, and plan preparation. As the preliminary design was developed, sanitary sewer, watermain, and storm sewer locations were determined. Sanitary sewer capacity became a concern and information was acquired and coordinated with the City of Grand Rapids and City of Kentwood to verify if the downstream sanitary sewer had capacity for the proposed development. The capacity study determined that there is capacity in the sanitary sewer and connections to the existing sanitary sewer were determined based on the future grading of the site. Each portion of the development will be completed by various developers. When the final design of the utilities are needed for each phase, the sanitary sewer and watermain will be designed and constructed in accordance with the City of Grand Rapids standards and permits. Other approvals will be acquired from the City of Kentwood and MDEQ as needed for site development and construction.
