Riverside Park Campground

Evart, Michigan

Story

This site, for the addition to Riverside Park, is located across the Muskegon River from the existing park. The 28-acre parcel was acquired by the City of Evart, Michigan. The property has 1,500 feet of frontage along the Muskegon River, and includes some open areas, some wooded areas, some wetlands, and two main creeks flowing into the Muskegon River. The property once hosted a sawmill, which operated on the banks of the river, with remnants still remaining on the site. The old railroad grade along the river is also still noticeable. Driesenga and Associates completed a feasibility study and developed a conceptual plan for the proposed 28-acre addition to the campground, which included phased construction of both primitive and modern campsites. The plan provides restroom and shower facilities, playground areas, walking trails, canoe and kayak sites, water and sanitary sewer service, and a sanitary dump station. The study included a preliminary estimate of construction costs related to the expansion, along with a listing of potential sources for project funding.
