Camp Roger Treehouse

Rockford, Michigan

General-Contractor

Story

Fryling Construction formed a partnership with Camp Roger to construct “The Tree House.”  The 190 acre camp has been serving West Michigan young people since 1941 with opportunities to explore, hike, and learn more about the natural world.

Construction efforts suceeded with minimal land disturbance to maintain the natural surroundings for nature study.  The Tree House includes a rustic natural ruff sawn wood exterior with standing seam roof and open floor plan with small storage closet for nature observatory equipment.  The structure uses 8 – 45 foot structural poles as its foundation that helps with achieving a platform height that any nature observer would admire.  To reach The Tree House a cable stayed bridge will be assembled with 8 cables with a 10,000 pound support capacity.

The Tree House was constructed as part of a joint effort with much of the work performed by camp volunteers.  Many of the supplies were also donated by local subcontractors.

According to project manager, Drew Terwee, “Its one of those projects that makes everyone involved feel like a kid again.”
