Story

Northern High School is undergoing a complete, multi-phased renovation plus a construction of a two-story, 55,345 sq ft addition that houses new cafeteria, administrative and counseling offices and the Husky Den school store. The school remains fully functioning throughout the renovation process.

Renovations include enlarged learning spaces, new science labs and a new administration area. The cafeteria features a full kitchen, servery and a multi-purpose gathering area. Besides serving as the school cafeteria, the addition includes a new main entrance for the building; new administrative, counseling and athletic offices; and the school store. Its location next to the Igloo Gymnasium also will provide intermission space during indoor athletic events. 

The classrooms are updated to Technology Enhanced Classrooms (TEC) with interactive teacher stations which allow for instant display and demonstration of learning material. The cafeteria features a warming kitchen and functions as an auditorium. Movable walls separate spaces into stage and music room areas.

Outdoor improvements include 10 new tennis courts and a softball field. The overall site is designed to improve traffic within the drop-off zones as well as access to the front entrance.

The school was designed and constructed to meet or exceed current sustainable design standards for energy efficiency, occupant comfort and air quality. Materials used were selected for recycled content, future recyclability, low volatile organic compound, durability and ease of maintenance.
