Story

The refurbishment of Owen Hall on Michigan State University’s East Lansing Campus was performed on an extremely accelerated schedule. The $7 million renovation project was completed in just under three months. The goals of the project included:

  • Increased occupancy to 95%
  • Increased marketability/interest
  • Fostered partnerships with neighboring professional schools and colleges
  • Celebrate the diversity of the international students that live in Owen Hall

The project program included interior renovations to the food and dining area, first floor common areas, reception desk, offices, and apartments, as well as the lower level common areas. Refurbishments to the infrastructure included modifying the existing loading dock, fire protection throughout Owen Hall, fire alarm upgrade, stair door connection to fire alarm, and abatement as required for renovation.

The building was opened for the Fall 2009 Semester.
