Gates Fluid Power Technology and Training Center

Mechanical-Design/Build

Story

Gates Corporations new 69,800 square foot "Customer Solutions Center" houses the product research, development and training operations of the Gates Corporation Worldwide Hose and Connectors Division. The facility includes testing labs, development labs, and high bay advanced manufacturing space, as well as office and product demonstration space. A key component to the project was to provide an energy efficient building systems suitable for the Xcel Energy Commercial Rebate program.

The design incorporated numerous energy efficiency measures. High efficiency lamps and ballasts, daylighting, daylighting control interface, dual level switching, occupancy sensors, and lighting control integrated with the building automation system were included in the electrical design to minimize energy usage for this facility.

Mechanical system designs also integrated energy efficient components to optimize energy usage. Evaporative cooling for the large advanced manufacturing space, hydronic heat recovery from heat producing machinery routed to various space heating units around the facility, premium efficiency motors, variable air volume HVAC units utilizing variable frequency drives, CO2 air monitoring control for occupant spaces, and a high efficiency process compressed air system were incorporated into the mechanical design.
