Story

BAGGAGE HANDLING SYSTEM ENGINEERING

Bob Hope Airport (Burbank, CA)

Swanson Rink provided design for recent modifications and additions to the existing inbound and outbound baggage handling systems to accommodate new in-line explosion detection system equipment.

The inbound design provided for two new carousels at Terminal 1 with special consideration for maintaining normal airport operations during construction. The Outbound work included replacement of existing bag make up systems in multiple phases, while maintaining normal operations for five airlines. The new work was done in two nodes, each with two Invision CTX 9000 EDS scanning machines. One node provides automated baggage handling for Southwest Airlines and the second is a baggage handling system for the common use of Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, America West, and Aloha Airlines. Both systems include on-screen resolution capabilities as well as diversion of suspect baggage for manual search and Explosives Trace Detection (ETD) resolution.
