Rocky Mountain Laboratories Completed

Project: Rocky Mountain Laboratories

Rocky Mountain Laboratories’ (RML) goal for the audio visual integration was to create flexibility between videoconferencing, audio conferencing, and presentation capabilities at eight locations.  RML also requested standardized configuration and AMX touch panel controls for each location to allow a wide range of users easy system access.

RML regularly uses conference rooms for scientific “Work in Progress” meetings.  These collaborative sessions involve a rotating agenda of team-members and content.  RML participants often videoconference with counterparts at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD, and audio conference with other off-site specialists, as well as share presentations and updates.

A favorite client feature is the ability to incorporate an audio call into an ongoing videoconference without the negative feedback from the possible speakerphone alternative.  Utilizing the same switcher for the audio and video has successfully created a seamless connection for all participants.

Modern upgrades include high-definition videoconferencing in several conference rooms and in the auditorium, and an Axis TV Digital Signage package in the lobby of the newest building.  Sophisticated large-screen LCD monitors enhance the aesthetics of the existing architecture.

The auditorium features two HD cameras.  This has been helpful in situations where a seminar taking place in Maryland is videocast to RML.  The program may open with a staff introduction in Montana and then the camera will switch to the room view with the seminar speaker in Maryland.  A content server allows for presentations to be archived and streamed to any of the eight conference spaces.

One of the challenges of working within the historical RML buildings was the existing infrastructure, particularly one building not constructed with AV in mind.  In one instance, a fixed installation would have deterred from the architecture, so a portable videoconference station was designed and integrated.  The client has been pleased with the look and the functionality of this solution.

RML’s key contributions to the nation’s health and well-being through biomedical research dates back to the early 1900’s – even before its current campus opened in 1928.  With the cutting-edge collaboration technologies RML has integrated into its landmark facility, it is poised to share expertise on many more scientific breakthroughs.
