Story

St. George Continuing Care Retirement Community, located in Roswell, Georgia, reiterates the importance of natural environments. The $35 million facility is located on 18.5 wooded acres and consists of 130 units, including 25 assisted living units. The facility is situated on top of a hill, surrounded by massive, old walnut and hickory trees. Throughout the design and construction process, close attention was given to existing topography and tree masses.

Simple organization of key amenities is a necessity of senior living facility planning and design. As residents age and become less mobile, having a community center where residents can gather becomes increasingly important. Within the community center, Rink Design arranged frequently used services to be near each other. This visual connection between amenities (mail center, dining room, game room) triggers a connection between residents, and thus a connection with their community. The goal was to create an environment where residents could continue to interact with each other on a daily basis.

It is important to create an environment where individual experiences are still possible. Private dining rooms are available for personal dining pleasure at the community center. The chapel and library also provide residents with an opportunity to pursue their lives as individuals.
