This project won a 2005 Associated Builders and Contractors Award of Excellence. This project was unique in many ways. It consisted of four different phases totaling 312,000 square feet that utilized a number of mechanical rooms located throughout the school. The boiler room contained five "Thermo Solution" high efficiency boilers rated at 2 million BTU's each. The 32 ton York chiller that serves the complex is a packaged air-cooled outdoor unit located outside the boiler room along with three thermal ice storage tanks. The main mechanical room is located on the mezzanine level and measurees 200' long x 25' wide x 28' high. The unique size of this room required extensive planning from all trades to install mulitple systems in a four tier layered arrangement. Supporting these mechanical layers while maintaining federal safety standards was a challenge in itself. Also, the main mechanical room housed the bulk of the air handling distribution system, which consisted of seven York "AirPak" double-wall air handlers that had to be rolled in from one end and ten set in place. Pleune also instaled five "Des Champs" energy recovery ventilation units in this area to meet the necessary fresh air requirements. This project was designed to meet or exceed LEED certification standards for materials and installation procedures.
