Talsma Furniture - Holland

Holland, Michigan

Architectural

Story

Situated alongside US-31, the client desired a stylish design with maximum visual exposure, while exclosing the building within a simple economical shell.  The client activily participated in the design by providing Omega Architects with photographs of various retail outlets, including a Macy’s department store.  The result was a uniquely creative finished product.
The building achieves its style and presence through the use of architectural block of varying finishes and colors.  The increased height of the exterior block wall highlighting the main entry was provided with a pattern of open “windows” to repeat the pattern of windows below while allowing wind to pass through the wall, reducing the potential of snow drift build-up behind the wall.  While the majority of the interior space in simple and clean with a suspended acoustical tile ceiling, the entry area features exposed roof construction and larger expanses of glass.
