Winnetka Presbyterian Church

Story

Winnetka Presbyterian Church was no longer meeting the needs of young adults, and, if the trend continued, the church and its legacy of providing an ethical forming community, would become obsolete. Initially, Winnetka Presbyterian Church commissioned Mekus Tanager to complete a master plan to set a direction for the re-planning of the church.  Such key issues as the need for a new Christian Life Center, the need to renovate the existing sanctuary and the need for renovated administrative space and new classrooms were identified in the planning process.  Upon completing the master plan and preliminary designs for the modifications and additions to the church, Mekus Tanager worked with a general contractor to price out the proposed changes.  When completed, the result was an entirely redesigned church that provides space to accommodate new experiences for the church's youth groups, an safe spaces for their activities, connects these activities more closely to the church, and dramatically changes the sense of community for the church and all of its members.
