Holy Redeemer Cemetery :: Phoenix, Arizona

Story

The design of Holy Redeemer Cemetery resulted from the input and cooperation of many groups.  Since the cemetery is located in the “Scenic Desert Corridor,” all parties wanted a configuration that would complement the existing plan for the surrounding neighborhood. The design incorporated sloping stucco walls and cantilevered copper roofs that not only tie with their surroundings, but also provide shade from the desert sun.  The Diocese of Phoenix hired Mekus Studios to develop a plan for a beautiful Catholic cemetery that preserved and featured the natural desert landscape.  The result is a uniquely designed cemetery building with a southwest theme that incorporates garden crypts and niches on all sides of each building.  Low stone walls are designed as a transition between the crypt buildings and the desert.
