Story

Workplace 20.20 is a PBS Workplace vision. Located in a Chicago federal office building designed by famous architect, Mies van der Rohe in the International Style of architecture, the PBS offices were designed and renovated to reflect the elegant modern style of the building’s strong architectural character.

As one of the first examples of the 20.20 Workplace, this project embraced new collaborative and interactive team-based strategies as well as the government’s environmental initiatives toward achieving LEED certification. To meet PBS’s functional and aesthetic goals the office design needed to appear open, transparent, accessible, attractive, and stimulating. This was accomplished in part with lower furniture workstation panels, demountable partitions, interior glass walls, laid out with a variety of “neighborhood” work settings, and all within government standards. The result has been a space that has improved efficiencies in workflow and employee interaction/collaboration.

We are proud that one of the completed floors was chosen and used by President Obama and his transition team for their Chicago offices until he officially moved to Washington DC. Also, the GSA was pleased with the result and submitted the space for a national GSA design award competition.

Size: 78,000 Sq. Ft - 3 ¾  floors
