Story

This was a Design/Build project delivery of a 147,000 square foot space that encompassed two floors of a building in Kemper Lakes. Our client, a blood technologies company who specializes in blood packaging, required a program that included multiple laboratories, testing facilities, a conference/education/exhibit center, open offices and high-end executive suites. 

Multiple interviews with Fenwal’s scientists, chemists, and engineers were held to understand the process of sample testing and storage. This information was applied to a Development Strategy for the laboratory space, which not only maintained the hygienic standards, but also improved functionality.  

The challenges of this project included coordinating extensive engineering requirements with the laboratory programming requirements, under an aggressive 8 month construction schedule, heavy MEP costs, and a 5.4 million dollar construction budget.
