In the midst of residence halls on the beautiful Notre Dame campus, the North Quad storm sewer project has been completed and unless you were there to see the work you'd never know it happened. The focus of the project was an upgrade to the existing storm water system between several residence halls and dining facilities. The project was completed on a very tight schedule during summer break so as not to interfere with the university's tough academic demands. Started on May 19, through the excessively rainy month of June, progress remained as steady as possible. Despite weather and other adverse conditions this extensive project was substantially complete as scheduled on August 1 and fully complete including all punch list items on August 26. This "roughly $730,000 contract" says Matt Kreager, Project Manager, had "substantial utility crossings." These crossings required: three pipe crews, grading, sidewalk replacement, and sod. The North Quad project included the installation of 2,450 linear feet of pipe, 24 manholes, and 3 drywells. As with any job, the challenges were numerous (including a tunnel protrusion in the way), but the crews performed well.
