One Haworth Center (HQ Renew)

Holland, Michigan

Concrete-Contractor

Story

The new renovation project at Haworth’s facility in Holland, Michigan is intended to make a statement to all their worldwide visitors.

The main building addition from first glance shows Haworth’s desire to build away from typical construction design.

As part of the Turner Construction Team, Kent Companies was allowed to incorporate VE ideas to help decrease overall costs and accelerate the construction schedule. One of the projects major cost components was a cast in place concrete wall that served as an architectural statement and building of 12’ above the footing. Integrated in the wall were 2’ window mullions all at irregular angles facade. This wall sloped over a span of 350 LF from a maximum height of 60’ to its lowest point that formed many layout and construction challenges.

Kent Companies proposal to overcome the construction challenges and create value for the owner was to convert the cast in place wall to a tilt up design. The installation of the tilt up panels which ranged in size up to 100,000 pounds saved the owner well over one hundred thousand dollars and greater than one month in the construction schedule.
