Martin's Grocery Store

Story

In the fall of 1947, Jane and Martin Tarnow opened the first Martin's Super Market as an 800-square-foot store in the 1500 block of Portage Avenue in South Bend, Indiana.  From that small beginning, the chain has grown to 21 stores located in the Midwest.  Martin’s has realized the advantages of polishing concrete floors over vinyl tile in their retail areas that encompass 40,000 square feet with the present floor plan.  The polishing process introduced by Kent Companies for the store in Stevensville, Michigan began after 10 short days of concrete cure, which enabled the new store to open 3 weeks earlier than originally planned.
