Boat House

Michigan

Concrete-Contractor

Story

A group of 33 families came together and bought 2,300 acres of unimproved property.  The property includes two lakes, a trout stream and lots of land for deer hunting.  A lodge was constructed, which now houses an on-site property manager.  Many years ago, a boat house was built along the lake to store row boats and canoes. The boat house has since fell into significant disrepair.

The property owners contacted hired a general contractor to rebuild the boat house, extending it 22 feet over the water.  The contractor demolished the old boat house, leaving the interior walks that were used to access the boats to aid in construction of the new boat house.   Kent Companies was hired to install helical piers to support the new boat house.   Nine helical piers were installed to handle a minimum of 15,000 lbs each, with a factor of safety.  The helical piers were driven to between 25 and 30 feet, depending on the soils and then cut at the proper elevation to receive brackets which connected to the wood construction of the boat house.

The job Superintendent remarked how "slick" these piers made the supporting of the building.  He assured us he would recommend this same process on the next boat house.  Kent Companies is the source for unique ideas for unique projects.
