This Analytical Building in Ann Arbor, Michigan required additional square footage to house a new laboratory.  The new addition included an 18’ deep basement adjacent to the existing structure.  This required proper shoring of the existing structure and stabilization of existing soils to prevent the existing structure from collapsing.  Kent Companies used helical piers to accomplish this.  Kent installed helical piers to support the existing structure’s foundation and tension anchors and shotcrete to retain the soils from below the foundation.  The general contractor was then able to safely excavate and pour new foundations for the addition.
