Story

The Verizon Wireless Fitness Center explores the territory of the speculative office environment as a viable location for introducing a mixed use recreational component.  The project initiates a dialogue between public and private through a series of material manipulations that at times obscures view to maintain privacy, celebrates transparency to benefit certain views, and various degrees between which activates the fitness area with a relative diversity.  Efficiency was critical to the limited amount of square footage dedicated to the activity, as well as the unusual floor plate of the existing shell.  Natural light was utilized throughout the facility including the lockerrooms in which lockers themselves were a translucent surface, providing a diffuse natural light to the interior space.
