The Alamo Dome

San Antonio, Texas

Electrical-Contractor

Story

ERMCO completed the electrical work for the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX in May of 1993. The multi-purpose facility takes up nine acres and is designed to seat 65,000, but is expandable to 72,000-plus seats as part of one of the largest retractable seating systems in the world.

The Alamodome has regular seating as well as club seats and suites. In addition to the seating area, there is over 160,000 sq. ft. of contiguous exhibition space, 2 Olympic size ice rinks, a restaurant, and multiple meeting spaces. It is rectangular with a cable suspension roof for greater flexibility.

This stadium consisted of 6,000 tons of steel, five miles of drainage pipe, 3,000 pieces of pre-cast concrete and over 140 miles of electrical wiring. ERMCO's work on the project included Fire Alarm, Telephone and P.A. Systems, Temporary Site Power and Lighting, Switchgear, Substations, Transformers, Panel Boards, Motor Control Centers, and Power Distribution.
