Belmont, Michigan

Civil-Engineering

Story

Driesenga & Associates provided all aspects of surveying, geotechnical, environmental and site design for Phase I and II, including PUD Zoning approvals, site drive and parking layout, public water main and storm sewer extensions, and private utility connections for the YMCA Family Center. Site challenges included preserving and mitigating existing wetlands, and completing area watershed computations to coordinate the transfer of the 100 year flood volume for the area watershed through the site with attention to enhancement of water quality. The project features a two mile nature path and boardwalk system through the existing and mitigated wetland network. Permits and approvals were obtained through Plainfield Township, the Kent County Road Commission, and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Development of the original 46,800 square foot state-of-the-art Family YMCA Facility including a lap pool, family pool, chapel, gymnasium, multi purpose fitness area, kitchen, indoor climbing center, and administrative offices along with outdoor soccer and softball fields and a nature trail on the 18.4 acre site in Belmont, Michigan was completed in 2006. Phase II design was completed in 2007 and included the addition of an elevated indoor track, a family gymnasium, family locker room, and multi-purpose area.
