Civil-Engineering
This project entailed an aggressive expansion program for this rural Michigan College Campus. The project included a new, two-story Life Sciences Training Facility that had a physical building connection to one adjacent classroom building as well as a covered pedestrian link to another. Existing grades allowed for walkout access to both levels without the need for exterior or interior ramping. Other important components to this project included the coordination with, and the required relocation of, numerous utilities traversing the site at the location of the building expansion, as well as providing fire service mains to the fine arts facility, locally known as the Barn Theatre. Driesenga & Associates, Inc. role on this project included topographic survey, geotechnical exploration, as well as civil engineering services over the course of the design and construction of this project. An important aspect of this project was the Owner’s desire to achieve LEED accreditation for the new Life Sciences Facility, for which Driesenga & Associates, Inc.’s team of design professionals assisted DSA Architects, the building Architect to achieve.
