The Peninsular Club, located in downtown Grand Rapids, hired Design Plus to update the club and bring a “fresh urban look” to the spaces. The renovations respect the traditional aspects of the club, but appeal to a broader audience and will attract new membership. Areas updated/enhanced included the bar, restaurant, café, lounge/gathering areas, meeting rooms, and banquet facilities. Total square footage for all floors affected equals approximately 22,000 SF. The third floor renovation was 5,300+ SF, second floor is 4,900+ SF, and the fourth floor is 6,900+ SF, with 2,500+ SF of minimal work on the first and fifth floors. Design Plus provided comprehensive interior design services, including significant interior architecture and custom millwork on the third floor, interior finish selection and specification, furniture specification, interior plantscaping, artwork selection and installation, a wide array of accessories and custom window treatments, and lighting selection and specification. Future phases of work include interior finish upgrades/enhancements on the second and fourth floors, and technology-based conferencing spaces on the fifth floor. Construction cost for the third floor renovation was $700,000 and was completed in January 2006. Remaining renovations were completed in 2007 with a total construction cost of $1,400,000 for the project.
