Gerald R. Ford Council Center for Scouting

Walker, Michigan

Architectural

Story

Design Plus provided design and documentation for a new 18,000 SF scouting center. The new facility will house the Boy Scouts Administration Center, offices, a scout shop, community meeting rooms, and an outdoor activities support area in the basement, which includes a large gathering space, lockers, storage, and toilet facilities. The site was developed to take advantage of its best natural features, providing a nature trail, a campfire circle, practice campsite, and a challenge course. While conveniently located to downtown Grand Rapids, the natural features of the site, combined with the building layout, provides the Boy Scouts with a facility that enhances their programs and overall mission. The project was completed in the fall of 1997 with a total construction cost of $1,300,000.
