Display Pack :: Employee Entry

Grand Rapids, Michigan

General-Contractor-Design/Build

Story

Display Pack wanted to create a ground level entry and reception area that would be both inviting and warm to visitors. This project included a 100-year old, 450,000 square foot manufacturing facility that needed a fresh new look for not only their clients, but for their over 400+ employees.

The project began with removing 8 to 9 feet of the existing grade for the new parking lot and hauling in several thousand yards of sand fill. Over one mile of pipe for a snowmelt system covers all of the new parking space, and it utilizes the building’s existing boiler. The parking lot is flanked by a covered walkway with a heated waiting terminal to make employees waiting for rides safer and more comfortable.

Copper-colored standing seam roofs were used for all entry ways, the walkway canopy and waiting terminal to create a unified appearance and a welcoming environment.

A smalI entry vestibule was added to create separation and highlight the new, inviting entry area. Inside, the original structural concrete was sandblasted and exposed to maintain part of the building’s history. More contemporary designs were implemented for the finishes and furniture, including LCD televisions in the reception area to communicate corporate messages and product displays.

Winner of the 2008 ABC Award of Excellence.
