Story

Lakeside TLC is a residence and treatment facility for at-risk youth from throughout southwest Michigan.  Children age six to seventeen that have been victims of abuse or neglect, or been involved with the court system live full time at Lakeside.

This six million dollar project was constructed in close proximity to the ongoing operations with minimal disruption.  The project consisted of three major components.

The new 17,700 sf Diagnostic and Treatment Center includes living space for 20 individuals, multi-purpose recreation rooms, medical exam space and counseling and treatment offices.

The Education facility has been renovated and expanded.  The existing 8,200 square foot school was completely renovated during the summer of 2001 and reopened on time for school to resume.  The renovation has provided for larger classrooms with expanded learning capabilities.  The two additions constructed include:  a 3,800 sf Dining Center to provide full food service for eighty residents and staff; a 7,300 sf Conference, Art and Cultural Center addition provides space for art, science, vocational and technical training including a new computer lab.

Finally, renovations were undertaken on the existing residence cottages.  The kitchen and bathroom facilities were renovated and new counseling offices have been added to each cottage.
