Fort Custer Training Center :: Electrical & Communication Systems

Augusta, Michigan

Engineering

Story

Design Problems: Electrical design for updating the primary electrical service throughout the Fort  Custer Camp.  The design includes implementation for switching and isolating different areas for the ability to minimize disruption to the whole site.  Implementation of dead front cabinets with capacity for future connections and expandability. Provide underground services and removal of overhead inadequate services.  Also included in the project was to provide emergency power to the Fort Custer Educational Center.  This includes providing an emergency generator for the building that will be a diesel generator.

Design Challenges:
1.  Design Challenges included working through phasing the work to not interrupt existing power until the main primary power switching unit was installed for isolating circuiting into multiple circuits.
2.  Minimizing the amount of time shutdown time for the camp for the implementation of multiple
primary upgrades around the site.
3. Implementation of emergency generator into an existing system that is already installed and figuring out where to install the emergency transfer switch and generator control in the existing electrical distribution system.

Scope of Engineering Services: Electrical Design for individual buildings as well as  electrical primary upgrades for the entire training facility.
