Kendall College :: Federal Building

Grand Rapids, MI

Electrical Contractor

Story

The unique historical characteristics of the existing building were a challenge and known from the start.  The challenge was to modernize a 100+ year old building yet preserve the historic ambiance one receives when walking the halls or entering the rooms in an old building; providing modern power, lighting, fire alarm, and low voltage conduit and cable tray system for TV, Phone, Internet, BMS controls, and security, yet only disturb a minimal amount of existing plaster, millwork, or building structure.  This challenge was increased in complexity by the owner’s desire to only see limited amounts of exposed conduit, surface mounted raceway or cabling in finished spaces of the building, with exception given in the basement level. Throughout construction, maintaining the schedule was of importance to the construction team.  Allied had to schedule and coordinate to meet the project milestones so that the overall schedule was not impacted. All those deadlines were met and the project was completed on time.
