University of California at Los Angeles Glorya Kaufman Hall

Los Angeles, California

Acoustical-Design

Story

This renovation involved converting an existing campus building into the University's Department of World Arts and Culture; including dance and music rehearsal rooms, a 300 seat theater, an outdoor performance pavilion and a lecture hall. The primary acoustical challenges were sound isolation between the dance studio - routinely used for flamenco, and the spaces below, which included a lecture hall, conference rooms, and offices. The design of architectural acoustics also played a large role in the Dance Recital Hall.
